1 April 1984, Kouga Ford’s (as we know it today) then dealer chief, Gerrit Potgieter Snr, took over Voortrekker Motors. Trading under various names since the beginning-First Voortrekker Motors, then GH Auto & Tractors, after that it was Kouga Ford and Mazda and today Kouga Ford.

Today we honor Gerrit Potgieter Snr who took over the business nearly 40 years ago and worked hard with a good and dedicated team to make Kouga Ford what it is today. In 2010, Gerrit Snr’s son, Gerrit Potgieter Jnr, took over as dealer chief and is still at the helm today.

Together with Voortrekker Motors, there was also a Shell filling station at the time and a “Golden Egg” restaurant was operated from the premises. At the beginning of Voortrekker Motors, the business only spanned two plots. During the time of GH Auto & Tractors, we operated a successful automotive, as well as agricultural division. The agricultural division, with tractors and implements, was sold in 2013. After 2013, the business was first operated as a Ford and Mazda dealer and the business occupied seven plots. Today we are Kouga Ford!

There have been great highlights, many successful moments and times where we could laugh until the tears flowed. A client who drove through the showroom window and cows who came to visit inside the building and stared at the vehicles were only a few moments that we will never forget.

After nearly 40 years Kouga Ford is still standing strong and we are proud to celebrate this milestone every year.
